Chronic Pain Management
Chiropractic is about restoring function and total health to your nervous system, which coordinates every bodily function. Breathing problems can also be related to the nervous system and chiropractic health can go far in aiding the process of the body healing many breathing issues. We know that often, children grow out of asthma which is a clear indicator of the body healing itself. People of all ages, and from differing professions and backgrounds will experience amazing improvements with their health and wellness as they practice consistent chiropractic care.
Asthma and Emphysema
When we breathe, we take in the air that is available to us. That air may not be in the best condition to help our body, we naturally warm, clean and humidify that air so that we can take it in and feed our cells, organs and tissues with oxygen. The air conditioning happens as it travels through your nose and naval cavities and entering your trachea.
When air leaves your trachea, it enters both the left and right bronchi, from there the air enters the lungs to drop off the oxygen into the bloodstream and to remove carbon dioxide to be expelled. The bronchi have branches called bronchiols that reach into the lungs and must remain clear to perform properly. Unfortunately for asthmatics, these bronchi and bronchioles become inflamed or swollen; they may begin to spasm and fill with mucous, with the results being a full on asthma attack where a person can literally feel like they are strangling to death. Not only does the intake of air seem like an impossible chore, the exhaling can be just as problematic as the air can be trapped behind the bronchi from excess mucous.
Asthma symptoms have become more frequent and more severe since the 1960's. It has gone from a non-killer disease to one of the leading chronic illnesses among children with devastating effects. Emphysema is a more severe condition of Asthma where some of the bronchi and bronchioles have been blocked and lungs have been destroyed and rendered only partially useful. The major cause of emphysema is from smoking and usually has no cure. Another breathing related illness is bronchitis where the bronchi suffer from increased amounts of mucous from viruses, allergies and more commonly from smoking. In time, the body can usually deal with and eliminate bronchitis.
How is chiropractic relevant to breathing illnesses?
Once again, nerve infringements and nerve stress have been seen to be major causes of illnesses becoming chronic. Relieved of these subluxations, the body can actively work on healing itself, and with the compelling evidence that many childhood diseases run their course and become non-existent in adulthood, it shows the ability of the body and how healing one's self is the best and natural course to follow. Drugs and prescriptions have not shown to remedy the ailments long term and have, in fact, shown to put sufferers at greater risk than the actual illness. A renowned Osteopathic writer, A. Stoddard in London England wrote that spinal impairment (subluxation), may be so important that this mechanical failure in the body must be made right or the symptoms will persist. He is referring to the special connection between the spinal column, the nervous system and our breathing 'apparatus' of nose, nasal, windpipe, bronchi and lungs.
We are always available to discuss the relationship of illnesses and disease with the administration of drugs and even vaccinations. You have choices and should know the information available on invasive and non-invasive treatments and work with symptoms.
