Stress, Anxiety and Chiropractic. It’s now well-known that chiropractic is effective for a multitude of pain conditions, but recently several studies have shown that chiropractic can also help us improve our overall health. Pain sends a signal of a problem in the body, so it stands to reason that if chiropractic deals with the pain, it has also dealt with the cause. What has become evident is that chiropractic can alter immune function, affect heart rate, and even change blood pressure, all with a positive effect on your well-being.
The feeling of being overwhelmed or overloaded with tasks, worries, unfinished business for a deadline, or whatever one’s capacity might be, is referred to as stress. For everybody, it’s different. That level of pressure that begins to build up can come at any time. Stress may start as a mental trigger but it quickly advertises the “stressors” which are the physical deliverers of the stress. Blood pressure rises, muscles tense, heart rate climbs and general anxiety sets in. If you aren’t positive you have stress, consider that you may have an inability to concentrate along with memory loss. Irritability, loss of sex drive, sleeplessness and other uncomfortable feelings may also set in. Stress is a reliably important indicator of overall health. Stress is an underlying factor in so many chronic immune, digestive and endocrine issues. The nervous system (master controller of the body) will be disabled in its ability to heal and restore function in the body with high chronic stress levels. Can chiropractors help with nervousness and anxiety?Research has demonstrated that patients receiving chiropractic adjustments had improved brain activity centered on pain processing and stress reactions. Reduced cortisol (stress hormones) levels were also evident which indicates that stress levels had dropped. In general, we know that chiropractic adjustments affect how we cope with pain and how we respond to disease, injury and stress. It is this effect on the nervous system that shows how chiropractic can promote the overall well-being we are trying to achieve. Chiropractic has so much more to offer than simple pain management!*(1)
