"Chiropractic care offers the possibilities to help increase the chances of vaginal delivery and the safety of delivery."  — Dr. Adrienne Lara (Harvard Trained OB/GYN)

This is an area of chiropractic care that we are very passionate about. It can be argued that this is the most important time  in our lives to have a healthy spine and nervous system. There are tremendous changes that happen during these critical  9 months of fetal development. These changes can not only impact the health and wellbeing of the pregnant mother, but  can also impact the health of the fetus.

Pregnancy is a time where the mother’s body is dealing with a lot of new challenges—changes in sleep patterns, nutrition,  hormone levels, weight, moods, and so much more. As the fetus continues to grow, the mother will experience changes in  her centre of gravity, as the expanding tummy pulls the pelvic alignment forward. This can cause irritation to the joints, soft  tissues, spine, and nervous system. As these changes take place, it is common for there to be significant misalignment in
the pelvis, which can lead to muscle stiffness, lower back pain, pelvic pain, and even difficulty during delivery.

Our goal during pregnancy care is to optimize the alignment of the mother’s spine and pelvis. This is incredibly important  for 3 reasons:

Improved nervous system function, which is critical to a healthy pregnancy and the development of the fetus. Increased chances of a healthy and natural delivery because misalignment of the pelvis can cause complications as the  baby begins to descend into the birth canal (which can lengthen the amount of time spent in labour and can increase the  need for a c-section delivery).

A more enjoyable pregnancy for the mother because regular chiropractic care can help to improve mobility during  pregnancy, as well as work to decrease pain, tension, and stress levels.

One technique that we have found especially beneficial over the years is the Webster Breach Turning Technique. This  technique was taught to Dr. Scott by Dr. Larry Webster prior to his passing. This technique is a gentle series of steps done  throughout the adjustment that relieves tension around the pelvis and soft tissues that support the baby. Over the past 25  years, we have used this technique on dozens of patients, and all but two cases of breach presentations corrected  themselves. The incredible power that exists within the body to heal and thrive is often released through chiropractic care  and healthy lifestyle changes.

The intimate connection that takes place between a mother and her baby is nothing short of a miracle and wonder. Of  course every pregnancy is unique and we will work with you to help address your individual pregnancy needs. It is our  goal to help improve your pregnancy experience through chiropractic care and lifestyle advice.
